AARNI X ALVAR & Aino aalto WATCH COLLECTION
Together with the award-winning contemporary designer Harri Koskinen, we revived the design of the Aaltos in the form of a unique watch collection.
The iconic design elements of the Aaltos, such as the circular holes, the "steps" pattern from the Aino glassware and the favourite wood of the Aaltos, birch, come together in a modern watch collection.
AINO & ALVAR - THE MASTERS OF MODERN DESIGN
The design philosophy of Aino and Alvar Aalto consists of functionality, aesthetics and timelessness. The results of the couple’s work are part of Scandinavian design history.
“I included elements from the Aaltos’ design, such as the ripple pattern of the Aino glasses and the grating pattern with circular holes, into the watch,” the designer of the Aarni X Alvar and Aino Aalto watch collection, Harri Koskinen, elaborates.
Close collaboration with the Aalto heirs resulted in an elegant, graceful and modern watch collection that radiates the philosophy and design language of the Aaltos, taking its place in the grand Scandinavian design tradition.
NORDIC BIRCH
Birch was Aino and Alvar’s favourite material and they admired its durability and softness in design. The Aaltos were ahead of their time in valuing and developing the art of handling birch.
Every tree has a story, its own individuality. Birch grows slowly through the four seasons, making it strong and durable. The watches are made of certified, sustainably grown Finnish birch.
Wood gives the watch a deeper dimension. It’s more than an object – it’s a piece of Nordic forest and inner landscape of the north. And now it’s a piece of design history.
