The World’s Toughest Ice Hockey Nation. Click play and enjoy.
For Finnish ice hockey lovers. With a lion’s heart.
We’ll never forget 1995. It was Finland’s first gold medal in the Ice Hockey World Championship, and a frenzy took over the entire nation. The winning goal by the captain Jutila will live in our minds and hearts forever.
And the gold medal celebration marked the end of recession in Finland. The time to silently sulk was over – now it was time to see each other in the market square, hug strangers and believe that dreams really do come true.
Finally, Finland had won the Ice Hockey World Championship. And what’s most important, we had finally beat Sweden, our ancient rival, in the final.
See you in the market square. Torilla tavataan!
“Torilla tavataan”, see you in the market square, is now a staple in Finnish vocabulary, meaning we’ll gather together to celebrate sports victories. We wait more eagerly for the potential gold medal celebration than Christmas and Midsummer combined.
The Ice Hockey World Championships in Finland remind us of a sense of community and what Finnishness is – and it’s also an ego boost to our collective national self-esteem. The ecstasy out on the streets and bathing in fountains are forever stored in our mind’s eye.
This year, we have already celebrated the brightest medal in the Olympics, so we’re setting off in the championships in pursuit of gold.
Jutila, Birch and the Finnish Blue – That’s all we need.
Who would be more fitting to eternalise the atmosphere of the national Finnish ice hockey team into an Aarni Watch than Timo “Juti” Jutila, the captain of the 1995 winning team? This watch is a homage to the world’s toughest ice hockey nation and Finnish ice hockey. The birch sawn by the living ice hockey legend Jutila paired with the blue dial epitomise the spirit of the 1995 winning team in a watch.
A limited edition of 400 watches is manufactured to celebrate the World Ice Hockey Championships in Finland that will be played in Tampere and Helsinki. The watch fits on the wrist of a ice hockey fan like a puck on a stick. A certificate of authenticity signed by the champion Jutila himself will be delivered with the watch.
